The majority of the fourteen boys who currently participate in the Micah Project spent significant amounts of time on the streets. To see them now as serious, future-oriented young men, it is almost as if their life on the streets was a bad dream from which they have awakened. Yet they have not completely forgotten the streets. As a matter of fact, they have returned to the streets, not to reclaim street life, but to reach out to their friends who are still there. In 2003, we have begun a new educational project for street kids. And it is our boys, the very ones who lived through that hell, that are teaching. It is our goal that, one day, our boys will take the lead in transforming their society into a place where no child must look to the street to survive. |
