August-September 2005 Photo Album!

Several of the guys have been participating in a painting class held at the Micah House every afternoon.  Here, Jose works on his painting of a white horse!

Freddy chose a very difficult portion of the Sistine Chapel fresco to paint as part of his class.  Maybe he will become the Honduran Michelangelo!

In the last week of August, we took a day trip to the Pacific coast of Honduras, about a three hour drive from Tegucigalpa.  We relaxed for a few hours on the Isla del Tigre, an island just of the Honduran coast.  Here, Jeferson relaxes while Becca plays ball with some of the guys.

September 15th is Independence Day in most of Central America!  Here, our sixth graders pose by the Honduran flag.  Left-to-right:  Juan Carlos, Erick, Darwin, Jeferson.  Front row: Maycol.

Michael's home church, the Central Presbyterian Church, spent brought a group to Honduras for four days in September for their annual "vision trip."  These are folks that have supported the project for years but have never seen it with their own eyes!  They are a very encouraging bunch of people and happily accept the role as the boys "abuelos"--grandparents!

A concert at the city dump???  Anything's possible!  Here, Randy Mayfield (www.randymayfield.freehomepage.com), the missions' director at Central Presbyterian Church, leads the children in our program at the city dump in a time of singing.  He may be standing on an old box instead of on a huge stage, but his ministry is just as effective!  Speaking of huge stages, he'll be singing the national anthem at the St. Louis Cardinal's last ballgame in Busch stadium!

We hold our classes at the dump every afternoon from 1:30 - 4:00.  The kids come to a soccer field across the street from the dump for classes.  Here, they pack in to our pick-up truck for the trip back to the dump after school!  Click here for more details about our ministry at the dump.

This is a child at the dump who is not yet involved in our educational program.  He is inhaling a rag full of paint thinner in order to get high.  Drug and solvent use is prevalent among the many children at the dump.

September 18th is Children's day in Honduras!  We made our annual trip up to David's house to celebrate the day with his family.  Here, his sister Yahira takes a whack at a piņata while David (red shirt), Jose and Juan Carlos look on.

Miguel teaches classes to families from the city dump as part of his senior service project.  Here, he teaches basic reading to a child as part of his project.
