April 2006 Photos

Cristino and Micah Board member Dianne Becker get ready for a big fall on a recent visit to Six Flags over Mid-America while Olvin fearlessly raises his hands in the background!  Dianne has been very active in the lives of our three young men who are studying at Missouri Baptist University.

Oscar Izaguirre helps complete a wall we recently built at Erick's house in Villa Linda Miller.  It was hot but rewarding work!

Oscar, who has been with the Micah Project since 2001 and currently lives in the Leadership House, will be attending Missouri Baptist University in the fall.   Click here to learn how to support him through our scholarship program!

Olvin Ponce moved into our Leadership House in late March.  He has been a student in our home schooling program for several years.  Olvin has always been "the boy with the ponytail", but on Becca's birthday (April 3) he cut it off as a present to her!  Here, he proudly sports his newly cut locks.

Olvin's incredible testimony was recently reported in an article on gangs in the St. Petersburg (Florida) Times.  Click here to read the article!

Project director Michael took our seventh graders on a three day camping trip at the end of April.  The trip had two purposes:  to improve our unity as brothers in Christ and to appreciate and enjoy God's creation!  We went to a beautiful national park and cloud forest called La Tigra.  Here Erick, Arly, Maycol, Juan Carlos, Darwin and Jeferson get ready for a six hour hike!

The La Tigra park contains an abandoned silver mine called El Rosario.  Here, Michael and Jeferson explore one of the old mine shafts!   The shafts, now deeply hidden in the forest, continue for hundreds of yards into the mountain.

Erick is a natural outdoorsman!  He was determined to explore every inch of the forest.  Here, he scales a ravine, one of the many team challenges the guys had to complete during the weekend.

After the long mountainous hike and many team challenges, the guys were ready to relax in the tent!  Here, Arly, Jeferson, Juan Carlos, Erick and Maycol get ready for nightfall.

One of the many team challenges!  In the challenge, called "minefield" each young man had to help his blindfolded partner through the "minefield" without stepping on any balls or Frisbees.  The guys definitely learned a lot about teamwork through the experience!  Here Erick helps Arly and Jeferson helps Maycol through the field.

The sun comes up early in the tropics!  Michael took this picture at 5:00 a.m. as the world began to wake up around him.

Relax time!  April is the hottest month of the year in Honduras.  Here, the guys take a Sunday breather at a local pool.  Jeferson leapfrogs Darwin as Arly looks on!  Good thing there were no lifeguards on duty!

During a recent Saturday workday, big Pedro and little Maycol take some time out to demonstrate brotherly love!
