Marvin

We met Marvin (called little Marvin, or Marvincito in Spanish) through our street ministry in the summer of 2007.  Because his mom had left him and his brothers with an aunt while she left Honduras in search of work, Marvin, like so many poor children, ended up on the streets.  And, like so many street kids, he quickly developed an addiction to yellow glue.   Marvin left the streets and joined our project in June 2007.  While it took him several months to leave the anxiety and addiction of street life behind him, with every passing week we could see more of his intelligence and potential.  Although he had never had any formal schooling, he was able to get through the fourth grade in our home-schooling program in 2008.

Above:  Marvin inhales yellow glue from a soft drink bottle while living on the streets in 2007.   Many of the street kids slept under the bridge in this photo.  Like most other street kids, Marvin spent almost every day inhaling yellow glue.

Our first important contact with Marvin came in June of 2007 when we were hosting a medical brigade from Houston, Texas.  Because Marvin had an bad infection in his ear, we took him to the clinic in Villa Linda Miller to get it drained.  We convinced him at the point that he should stay with us at the Micah House so that his ear wouldn't get infected again!  Here, he doesn't look very happy after the doctor drained the liquid from his ear!

It was wonderful when Marvin began to leave the bitterness of the streets behind!  We loved to see his new-found smile.  Here, he smiles for the camera at a October 2007 outing to a park.

On a visit to a home for abandoned senior citizens in 2008, Marvin shares a lunch with an elderly gentleman.

Marvin's 14th birthday in August of 2008!   One thing that made this birthday so special is that it was the first birthday that he had ever celebrated.

Birthday:  August 12, 1994
