Darwin Pavon graduated from Zamorano University on December 1, 2007! This courageous young man overcame great adversity to graduate from the most prestigious agricultural engineering university in Latin America. Above, Darwin stands with his mother Flora and his siblings in front of the main hall at Zamorano on his graduation day. Below, Darwin receives his diploma during the graduation ceremony as 200 graduates from all over Latin America look on. What an amazing testimony of God's ability to transform lives!

Micah Project director Michael Miller's parents David and Linda came to Honduras for Darwin Pavon's college graduation. As is custom, both spent time at Villa Linda Miller, the beautiful community of 165 homes built after hurricane Mitch destroyed much of Honduras in 1998. Above, Linda Miller gets a tour from the youngest members of her namesake community!

December means school vacation in Honduras, and the Micah Project used the time to get to know this beautiful country. Our first trip was an eight hour drive to the Caribbean coastal town of La Ceiba. For four days, our young men got to experience some of the highlights of God's creation! Here, Wilmer and Maycol swim in the warm waters of the Caribbean with the Pico Bonito rainforest as a backdrop. It was the first time Wimer had ever seen the ocean!

While in La Ceiba, we stayed at the Jungle River Lodge, a rustic lodge on the Cangrejal river at the entrance to the majestic Pico Bonito national park. While at the lodge, our guys got to know the wilderness well through white-water rafting and a rainforest canopy zipline tour. Above, we admire the rainforest above us and the rapids of the Cangrejal river below. In the picture below, Erick jumps headlong into the river!

While he waited for his college classes to begin in January, Fredy used his time well by painting a mural on the wall of the Micah Project office. Here, Fredy works on the roof of a home while our art teacher German adds some detail to another house in this typical village scene.

Another trip that happened in December was to Roatan island, off the north coast of Honduras. This has become our tradition with our high school graduates as a way to celebrate their accomplishment. For this group, not only was it their first time on an airplane, it was also their first time away from the Honduran mainland. Above: Jose, Olvin, Fredy, Jerson, Daniel and Becca bask in the Caribbean warmth. Below: Wendy (a Micah Project teacher in our home-schooling program), Jose, Fredy and Daniel tour the island on motor-scooters.

December is also a time of giving at the Micah Project. Our young men were able to give our buckets filled with food items to needy families throughout Tegucigalpa. Here, Jeferson and Jorge (our volunteer from Instituto Canzion in Monterrey, Mexico) hand a food bucket to a single mom in the Villa Linda Miller community.

Dan Paul, our street ministry coordinator planned an elaborate Christmas dinner for twenty of the street kids and teens that have been a part of our outreach program. In mid-December, the street youth arrived at the Leadership house and were treated to a grand banquet! Above: Jorge, Maynor and Jose eagerly await the dinner. Below: Jose Daniel gets a refill of Coke.

Christmas 2007 was a special one at the Micah Project! Not only did we have most of our college students home for a couple of weeks, but we also had the honor to host the Herbold family from Houston, Texas. Chris and Becca Herbold brought their toddlers Kaitlyn and Jack to help us celebrate Christmas in style! Here, we gather around on Christmas eve as the Herbold kids open their presents. They didn't have to wait until midnight like the rest of us did!
