October-November 2009 Photo Album

God has truly showered us with blessings in the months of October and November:  a sixth grade graduation to celebrate, an amazing spiritual retreat, a vacation to the rainforest and multiple chances to serve others.  I hope these photos will help bring you up-to-date with the goings-on here at the Micah Project!

Our guys love to release their pent-up energy by playing soccer on the indoor patio of the Micah House.  Here, Pedro Luis, Marvin, Maycol, and Cristofer all compete for the ball.

Through our street ministry, we continue to reach out to the youth that have no home.   Rosa (right) is a teenage girl who has been on the streets for several years.  Lately, she has been joining us on our Saturday outings and to the art classes that we attend once a week.  Rosa has a severe addiction to yellow glue, and we are praying that she can find her way off the streets.

Left:  Alejandro has been on the streets for many years now.  He had a chance to join the Micah House when Wilmer and Marvin did in 2007, but he went back to the streets after one week.  Here, he dons a mask that he found in the trash.

As one of our day of light outreaches, our boys traveled to the Manuelito Project's orphanage to share their testimonies.  Above, Edwin shares a song that he produced about his past life.

A hero's send-off!  On October 14, Honduras' national soccer team qualified for the world cup of soccer (to be played in South Africa in 2010) for the first time since 1982.  By chance, we were all at the airport when the national team left a few weeks later for a game in Miami.

Here, our guys pose with one of the stars of the Honduran team, David Suazo.  They managed to get pictures and autographs with the entire team!

In early November, a Christian school in Tegucigalpa held a fundraiser for the Micah Project.  The boys were invited to spend an evening with the youth from the school.  Here, Wilmer plays goalie on the school's soccer field during a pick-up game!

As part of the fundraiser at the Pinares Academy, the students spent the night on the school soccer field in cardboard boxes to learn what it feels like to be homeless.  Here, Yeison takes a nap in one of the boxes.

Marvincito shares his testimony during the Pinares' school fundraiser for the Micah Project.

In late October, we held a spiritual retreat for our young men at a national park in central Honduras.  The theme of the retreat focused on repentance and forgiveness, a vital theme for our young men who have suffered so much in their early lives.   Our guest speaker, Raul Ardon,  the director of Instituto CanZion in El Salvador, spoke very compassionately and directly to the boys.

Our dear friend Melody Dunne (foreground), came to Honduras for a few days and was able to join us on the retreat!

As part of our spiritual retreat, we visited the biggest waterfall in Honduras...Pulaphanzak.  Here, Micah missionary Jenna Miller swings across the waterfall on a zipline.

Graduation!  Two of our young men, Pedro Luis (far right) and Marvincito (second from right) graduated from sixth grade in November.  This is a huge accomplishment when you consider the trauma of their past lives.   The Micah Project threw a big graduation celebration, and over 80 people came to congratulate them.  Angie (left) and Carlos also participated in our home-schooling program this year and graduated alongside our guys.

As a surprise to our sixth grade graduates, we flew Marvin Morazan in from Costa Rica so that he could sing at the ceremony.  Marvin is studying music ministry in San Jose at Instituto CanZion.  He is always a huge encouragement to the younger guys when he comes back to visit!

Micah friend Mary Floye Federer also flew to Honduras for Marvin and Pedro's sixth grade graduation.  We enjoyed spending a few days with our dear friend!

Vacation time! In late November, a wonderful family from Houston, the Herbolds, flew to Honduras in order to take the entire Micah family on vacation!  We drove ten hours north to the Caribbean coast of Honduras and spent a few days doing eco-adventures in the Pico Bonito rainforest.

Above:  Pedro Luis flies across the Cangrejal river on a zipline.   Below:  We stayed at the Jungle River Lodge, which is built right into the Pico Bonito forest.

Cliff-diving was another highlight of our time in the rainforest.  Here, Marvincito jumps thirty feet down into the strong current of the Cangrejal river.

The Wiggs are here!  The Wiggs are here!  That was the cry in mid-November when this Oregonian family joined us as full-time missionaries.  The Wiggs (Brian, Natasha, Michael (11) and Brian James (7)) have been planning for two years to move to Honduras to help the Micah Project start a vocational school for street youth.  We are so excited that they have finally arrived!

Above:  Brian takes some time to pray on the banks of the Cangrejal river in the Pico Bonito rainforest.

We lost two tires on the rugged tracks up into the rainforest on our vacation in La Ceiba.  Thankfully, this tire repair shop was close!  Here, the Herbold family...Chris, Becca, Katelyn and Jack, have some fun while we wait for the tire to be fixed!

You can't go to the Caribbean coast without spending time at the beach!  Here, we have fun splashing around in the warm Caribbean surf.
