The Micah Project October 2008 Photo Album

Our ministry to street kids continues to grow on a weekly basis.  Our team walks to the market district a three afternoons a week to develop relationships with the children and teens that live on the street.  Above:  Jose, one of our college students who lives in the Leadership House, helps a couple of children from the market with a craft.  Below:  Mary and Katy, on an October Vision Trip from First Presbyterian Church of Houston, works with Fredy to help some of the street teams with their crafts.

Above:  Mary Floye smiles with Pedro in the market area of Tegucigalpa during a First Presbyterian Church vision trip to Honduras in October.  Below:  The members of the FPC vision team, which included Jeff, Mary, Sam, Katy and Max, wait out a rainstorm with Michael Miller and Axel.  Vision trips are designed to introduce people to the various aspects of the Micah Project ministry over a long weekend.

Max and Wilmer do some freestyling at a concert during the FPC vision trip in October.

Hector made the decision to leave the streets and join the Micah Project in October.  We have been working with him for over a year in our street ministry; however, the addiction to yellow glue kept him from joining the project.  In the last several months, as Hector has joined us on many of our Saturday fieldtrips, he has gained more confidence in us.  Finally, he showed up to the house one cold Wednesday evening ready to leave the streets behind!  Above:  Hector smiles with Mocha on a Saturday fieldtrip just before joining the project.  For more information about Hector read our blogpost entitled "Cold nights and changed lives" on www.micahcentral.blogspot.com.

Becca Haver's fiancée  John Bell moved to Honduras in September to begin ministering as the Micah Project chaplain.  Becca and John will be getting married in December.  Here, they stand with street kid Jose Daniel during a recent hike in the La Tigra rainforest.

Recently, Edwin, who is one of our college students, has discovered that his mom was living in a makeshift shelter underneath a bridge in Tegucigalpa with several of her younger children.  As a project, we are trying to find a small room to rent for her so that she does not have to continue to live in the streets.  Above:  Edwin takes a look at his mom's residence.

Maycol (pronounced Michael) shares a moment with street kid Alejandro while doing a craft on a recent visit to the market district.  Alejandro is inhaling yellow glue out of an old Coke bottle.

A perfect theme for Erick's last few months.  Erick, who struggled mightily with drug addiction last year, has been in a drug rehab program called Proyecto Victoria.  We visit him every Sunday to encourage him to keep moving forward towards healing.  The change in him has been remarkable, as he leaves addiction behind and begins to set goals for his future.

Our street ministry coordinator Dan Paul was married in September to Kamia, who is from Colombia, South America. Here, they take a second to hug during an outing to the farmers' market.
