November 2006 Photo Album

The Micah Project continues to do a weekly outreach to the streets.  Recently, we helped an elderly homeless woman build a small room along the river that runs through Tegucigalpa, after her previous shack burned down in a grease fire.  Here, Marvin and Jeferson lower wood into the space where the room was rebuilt.

"Los Micah Boys" continue to witness to many people in Tegucigalpa through their new album "Dificil de Olvidar" ("Hard to Forget").  Above, Pedro and Marvin sing at the chapel services of a local Christian high school.

Our program at the city dump, Proyecto AFE, graduated its first class of sixth graders this year!  In a beautiful graduation ceremony in November, these seven children, who once spent their lives amongst the trash of the city dump, proudly stepped up to receive their diplomas.  What a huge achievement in their young lives!  Jeony Ordonez, who has been the pastor of the church at Villa Linda Miller since January, continues to direct the ministry at the city dump.

Some of the young men went with Becca and some volunteers to a rainforest in the mountains beyond Tegucigalpa called "La Tigra".  Maycol pauses near a waterfall after several hours of hiking!

Several of our young men continue to volunteer at the city dump ministry (Proyecto AFE) on Saturdays.  They lead the children in games, and have formed a soccer team.  Here, Marvin helps to hand out a snack to the happy children!

Juan Carlos, Marvin and Pedro take a minute to mug for the camera during David's recent birthday celebration.

December is our "summer vacation" from school.  We are taking the opportunity to do some much needed remodeling on the Micah House.  In addition to putting on a new roof, we are also repairing the old adobe walls and installing an underground water cistern.  Above:  Erick hands an old roof tile to our construction foreman.

We were privileged to have two wonderful friends visit in November and participate in our graduation at the city dump!  Mary and Mary Floye have been friends and supporters for many years.  Here, they show a little motherly love to Arle in the Micah House kitchen.

Even though "football" in Honduras really means soccer, Michael has introduced the guys to "American" football.  On a recent Saturday outing to a park outside of Tegucigalpa, the guys got to practice their skills.  Here, Oscar tackles Edwin as Erick laughs uproariously in the background.

Jarvin is finishing up his first semester of studies at Houston Baptist University.  Recently, he went with the Marshall and Chapman families to Big Bend National Park in West Texas.  Here, he pauses in his hike to appreciate the beautiful surroundings.

All of our young men studying in the U.S. gathered for Thanksgiving at the Miller household in St. Louis!  Here, Oscar, Marvin, Tino, Jarvin and Olvin stand with Project director Michael Miller after a good meal.  Marvin, Tino and Olvin are sophomores at Missouri Baptist University, while the other two are freshmen this year.

Oscar experienced his first snowfall on December 1, 2006.  As he finished up the first semester of his freshman year at Missouri Baptist University, he had been waiting impatiently to experience snow.  I think the fun wore off pretty quickly!
