Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed. Easter is a special time in Honduras. The towering statue above is called "The Cristo de Picacho" and it is on the highest peak that overlooks Tegucigalpa, representing Christ's ascension.
One of the Good Friday traditions in Tegucigalpa is a procession called the "Holy Burial." On blocked off streets of downtown Tegucigalpa, Christian groups spend the entire day making intricate and beautiful sawdust carpets depicting scenes in Jesus' life and important symbols of Christianity. Then, at sundown, a procession depicting the crucified Jesus leaves the Cathedral and proceeds over the carpets. Above, Becca and Marvincito admire one of the sawdust carpets (which is also used as the background to this page). Below, the holy burial procession begins at the cathedral on Good Friday.

Our Canadian missionary Dan Paul continues to lead a team to minister to the street kids in the market area of Tegucigalpa several days a week. Above: on an Easter Sunday visit to the streets with the youth group from the Central Presbyterian Church, we ran into Alex, who goes by the street name "Weecho". Here, Arle gives Weecho a plate of food.

On the same visit to the streets, we ran into another street boy named Jose Daniel, who goes by the street name "Perro de Agua" (water dog). we have been praying for several months that Jose Daniel would give up the streets and his addiction to yellow glue and join the Micah Project.

One of the purposes of the youth group's trip was to continue building the classrooms of the Villa Linda Miller school. This group works hard to finish painting the school bathrooms. I think Wilmer has more paint on his body than the bathroom walls do!

While hauling rocks for the school's foundation, Jeferson took a little spill! Those are heavy wheelbarrows!

After a week of hard work, the youth group and the Micah Project took a trip to the PANACAM rainforest in central Honduras. Here, the group takes a rest after a steamy hike up the side of a mountain to get to the heart of the forest! Below, one of the many breathtaking scenes in the PANACAM forest.

After last year's trip to Honduras, the Central Presbyterian youth group decided to help raise funds to buy a small home for the mother of Daniel, one of our young men. Daisy is a single mom who is raising several young kids on her own. Thanks to much perseverance and planning by Catherine (pictured here) and other kids in the group, they raised enough money to buy the home at the end of last year. As a way to say thanks, Daisy comes to the Micah House every Sunday to cook lunch for our guys.
