January 2009 --- Micah goes Global!

Michael spent a week in Portland, Oregon in January with Brian and Natasha Wiggs.   The Wiggs are planning to move to Honduras in July 2009 to start the Micah Project technical school.  Michael was able to meet their supporters in Portland and assist in some strategic planning for this exciting new chapter in our ministry!  Click here to find out more about the Wiggs' upcoming plans for the Micah Project!

After his week in Portland, Michael went to St. Louis to catch up with family and with the guys who are studying at Missouri Baptist University.  Here, Michael, Tino Hernandez, Marcella Chirco, Marvin Soto, Drew Smith and Oscar Izaguirre have fun in an evening snow storm.   Drew, a missions' consultant who has been helping in the strategic planning of the Micah Project technical school, had them to his house for a wonderful meal on a snowy night!

Oscar Amaya traveled to Switzerland in January to begin a six-month mission's experience with Youth with a Mission.  He will spend the first three months training in Switzerland before moving to the mission's field in another country for an additional three months.  Here, he shares a cold lunch with some of his YWAM teammates.   Oscar's letters home indicate that God is already teaching him amazing things through his experience!

Marvin Morazan moved to San Jose, Costa Rica in January to begin his studies in music ministry at Instituo CanZion.   He joins Jarvin and David in San Jose, both of whom are studying at another university.  Marvin has already gotten involved in a good church in San Jose and is very excited about his studies at Instituto CanZion.  Above: Marvin is already taking leadership in his church in San Jose as he leads the children in  a song!

The older Micah boys travel to the Guatemalan border town of Copan every January to assist a team from the First Presbyterian Church of Houston.   They always enjoy getting out of the city and serving in the small indigenous village of Otuta.  Above:  Jose checks villagers into the clinic.  Below:  John Bell helps translate for Dr. Robert Moore.

Above:  During their week with the First Presbyterian Houston mission team in Otuta, Honduras, Becca takes some time to smile with two boys from the village.  Below:  the group took time to explore the Mayan ruins at Copan.  Here, Juan Carlos, Becca and John walk through the tunnels under one of the pyramids.

We were also pleased to host a team from Meridian, Mississippi in January.  The team provided the funds and manpower to help complete two more classrooms of the Villa Linda Miller elementary school.  They also provided games and activities for the children of Villa Linda Miller and participated in other aspects of Micah's ministries.  Here, Pastor Rhett Payne (orange shirt), David, Pedro, Aaron and Franklin stand in front of the classroom scaffolds that they built in order to begin the second floor of the school.

Meridian team members Richard Vise and Tommy Dobbins work on the perimeter wall of the Villa Linda Miller clinic.

Above:  several of the Micah boys are in a youth soccer league which meets on Wednesdays and Fridays.  Here, Maycol gets ready to score a goal with a powerful right foot!  Maycol scored two goals in this game.

It's nice to be able to go swimming in January!  The guys spent a fun Sunday afternoon at the pool in late January.  Here, Cristofer goes down the slide while the others wait their turn!
