Fall 2007 Photo Album

Page One

The young men of the Micah Project have had so much going on in October and November that we've decided to do a double photo album!  After looking at the photos on page one, click on Page Two to see the rest.  We hope you will be blessed by seeing what God has been doing in the lives of our young men!

Over the river and through the woods (and up the tall mountain!).  In the last few months, we have taken our young men out of the city almost every weekend to explore the beautiful Honduran countryside.  In October, we did a four-hour hike through La Tigra, a cloud forest near Tegucigalpa.  Here, Danilo, Erick, Arle, Jose and Pedro take a break from hiking on a fallen tree.

La Cena Fiesta!  Project director Michael Miller went up to St. Louis for the annual missions conference at his sending church, the Central Presbyterian Church.  One evening, he teamed up with all of our college students that study in the U.S. at the Fiesta dinner, an outreach to the local Spanish-speaking community.   Here, from left to right, Jarvin, Oscar, Olvin, Marvin and Tino share about what God has been doing in their lives.

From street kid to accomplished horseman! Wilmer joined the project in July, but then left back to the streets for a few weeks.  In September, our new street ministry coordinator, Dan Paul, encouraged him to rejoin the Micah family!  We have tried to keep this thirteen year old as active as possible as his body detoxes from his addiction to yellow glue.  At press (Nov. 21) things have been going very well!  Above, Wilmer enjoys learning horsemanship on an October visit to a park in the Yeguare valley of Honduras.

Dan Paul (chewing on a straw), has been with the Micah Project since September.  He has been going to the streets on a daily basis to minister to the children and teens that call the streets home.  Our guys have enjoyed having Dan as part of the family (our first Canadian brother!), as seen by the smiles on Juan Carlos, Olvin and Jerson's faces in this picture, taken on a recent outing to a park near Tegucigalpa.  Click on this Youtube link to see a video of the recent work on the streets:

Usually when Project director Michael goes to the States, Roger stays in the Micah House in his absence.  This year, it happened backwards!  Roger (grey jacket) and Marlon (tan jacket) were able to attend a conference in New Jersey in October.  After the conference and some pretty cool sightseeing in New York city, they headed to St. Louis to visit our college students there.  Here, they stand under the St. Louis arch with sophomore Oscar Izaguirre and his roommate Isai (pronounced ee-sah-ee).

Our first college graduate!  Darwin Pavon is finishing up his last month of studies in agricultural engineering at Zamorano University.  What a great accomplishment for this young man who will be the first in his extended family to graduate from college!  Here, Darwin stands with his sister Alejandra in front of the chapel on Zamorano's pristine campus.  Darwin will graduate on December 1.

Maycol at rest.  Maycol (pronounced Michael) takes a break from shopping at the colonial town of Valle de Angeles to rest in their central square.  Maycol lived with his family for the first several months of this year, but moved back into the Micah House in October due to problems in his family and neighborhood.

Professor Jerson!  Our graduating seniors had to give classes in public health as part of their senior year internship.  Here, Jerson instructs one of the classes at the AFE school at the city dump.

Progress in Villa Linda Miller!  This year, with the help of two youth groups and a generous donation, we were able to complete two more classrooms and the restrooms of the Villa Linda Miller elementary school.  Click here to learn more about how Villa Linda Miller is growing!

Moving on up!  Our graduating class (pictured above and below) worked hard up to the very day before their November 10 graduation in order to finish their senior year classes.  There's nothing like taking a philosophy and physics exam in your last week of high school!  Now, the guys are eager to start their new lives as college students in January.  Below, Daniel, Fredy, Jose, Olvin and Jerson prepare for graduation!  Speaking of graduation, click on the Page Two link below to see pictures of that joy-filled event!
