April 2011 Photo Album

Lately, there has been a lot of stability and growth at the Micah Project.   God is working in each one of these lives to bring them closer to Him.  Each activity- whether it be a part of our daily routine or a special event or outing  -  gives us the opportunity to point each of our young men to Christ.   In April, our daily  routines were punctuated by Easter, lots of soccer and the laughter that makes the Micah Project such a joyous and noisy place!

Routine - the constant day-in and day-out of Micah life that forms and shapes our guys. It is here, in the mundane and the familiar, that our guys truly begin to leave the pain of their pasts behind and move forward in healing.

Above:  We are fully into the swing of the Honduran school year! One of the changes that we have implemented in our school is the addition of an honor roll. Here, Michael Miller smiles with the top two honor roll students - Axelito (L) and Miguelito (R)!!

A normal part of a Micah week is the Dia de Luz ministry. Each week, the Micah guys find a new way to serve a group of people. Our goal with this weekly activity is to teach the guys that life is not just about receiving - but rather, that we should give to others out of the blessings we have received. Above, Pedro Luis cuts the brush on the property of a new group home for street girls that will be opening soon. Below, Brayan Chavez, Israel and Axelito take a moment from brush-chopping in order to pose for a photo.

Besides our normal Dia de Luz program, our  young men also find ways to do ministry in their own way.  Here, Miguelito, Axelito and Brayan Chavez perform one of their songs in the Los Dolores plaza of downtown Tegucigalpa for a program celebrating the International Day of the Street Child.

Of course, a normal part of the Micah routine just involves our guys being goofy clowns! Here, Arle (who was with us over Holy Week during his school's vacation), Yeison, Yoel and Juan Carlos from the technical school take a moment to clown around.  We are always happy to see such big smiles!!

Daniel had a new and exciting routine over the past few months as he traveled to England to do an internship there on a family farm.  He had a wonderful experience, and came back to Tegucigalpa in mid-April to finish his last semester at Zamorano University.  He will graduate in December with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.

A large part of how we help our guys grow from day to day is through constant, selfless love. Perhaps the best example of this love would be the life and ministry of John and Rebecca Bell - they constantly pour into the guys' lives, and they respond with just as much love!!

The Micah guys are well know as being clowns, but what most people don't realize is that the Micah staff is just as prone to clowning around as the boys with whom they work! Above, Brian Wiggs sneaks into a photo of Maycol Coban (L) and Moises Meza (R) in their costumes for their church's Easter drama. Below, Timothy House RA Jeremy Tolleson demonstrates how a duck dances!

Easter week is Spring Break for all of Honduras; banks and businesses close down, and many people find ways to get to the southern Pacific Coast or the northern Caribbean coast of Honduras.   The Micah Project did both:  our younger boys went camping on the Pacific coast, while the Timothy House guys went to the colonial town of Trujillo on the Caribbean coast.  Most importantly, though, we took some time to reflect on the death and RESURRECTION of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Several of the guys spent the weeks leading up to Holy Week practicing for the youth church drama. Above, the "Micah Theatrical Society" poses in their costumes (and, in tribute to their favorite singer, Justin Beiber, form hearts!). Below, Mayol Coban and Moises Meza guard the crucified Christ. Moises in particular was very convincing in his role!

The first part of our week was a two-day trip to the Southern Coast of Honduras - to a small town called El Cedeno. The guys loved playing in the surf and the sun! Here, Hector grins up out of the water!

The Micah guys weren't the only ones in the water - each member of the Micah staff also did some body-surfing.   Michael Miller spent almost as much time playing in the surf as the Micah guys!!

After a full day on the beach, we camped out in the backyard of Miguel Fugon's older sister (who lives 15 minutes from the beach). After a long night of laughter and playing, Charly tried to hide and sleep-in for a few more minutes in the morning!

Timothy House on the move!  Since our older guys live such diverse lives...in different universities and jobs, it is difficult to get them together for any length of time.  But since Honduras closes down for Holy Week, they took the opportunity to travel to the Caribbean coastal town of Trujillo for a couple of days on the beach.  They had a great time!

After returning from the Southern Coast (all very sunburned and VERY tired), we passed most of the rest of the week with various outings to parks around Tegucigalpa. The only problem was that, as shown by this picture of a popular waterpark near Teguz, almost everyone else who stayed in the city had the same idea!

The end of the week saw the arrival of beautifully crafted alfombras (carpets) made out of colored sawdust. On Good Friday, we took the guys down to the downtown area in order to watch the traditional processions and to see the carpets.

We finished our week with a wonderful Easter Sunday dinner prepared by Megan Scheumann and Natasha Wiggs. These two ladies worked hard to make a mouth-watering dinner of chicken, potatoes, sliced bread and vegetables. The Micah guys loved it!!

An important part of each and every day at the Micah Project is the love and the prayers that you all shower down on us.   You are part of our extended family and are a vital part in raising up these boys.  Thank you for your constant encouragement and support!  Here, Michael smiles with long-time supporter Marilyn Mackris at his church's missions conference in April.
