Yoel Rivera

Birthday:  August 10, 1994

Yoel (pronounced Joel) moved in to the Micah House in January 2010 at the age of 15.  We met him through his younger brother Axel, who we met on the streets in 2008.  Yoel's dad is in jail, and his mom lives in a run-down motel on one of the most dangerous blocks of the market area.   While his younger brother Axel fled this dismal environment to the streets, Yoel stuck it out and managed to keep advancing in school.  When we first met Yoel in 2009, he showed a lot of desire to keep moving ahead in life.  Keep praying for him as he moves towards adulthood!

Above: Yoel hands out treats to village children during a mission trip to Otuta, Honduras in January 2012.   As a tenth-grader in 2012, Yoel is focused on his studies and growing in his faith.

In 2011, Yoel is a ninth-grader in our home-schooling program.  He is very active in his church and  youth group, and desires to keep growing in his faith!  Here, he stands with his buddy Yeison and Micah friends Victor and Julie Harris.

Above:  Yoel decided to be baptized in October of 2010 after making a decision for Christ earlier that year.  Here, Pastor Edwin Aguilar gets ready to baptize him!  We are excited to see his faith growing day-by-day!

Yoel as a baby!
